The Crew Dishes: New Year Beauty Resolutions!

30 December, 2022 - 01:47pm by - Head Pixie | 6 Comments

by BR Kellie

I'm terrible at New Year resolutions. The moment I try and set myself a rule I am compelled to break it, which is why I prefer to create soft goals such as, 'if I remember to apply sunscreen in the morning then I'm doing good', or 'I will try my best to use up my foundations before buying any more'.

BR Amelia is the absolute opposite. She has a talent for setting a resolution and sticking to it. And BR Merilyn is the only person I've ever met who uses up an entire eyeshadow palette before buying a new one. (We don't talk about my palette collection - I genuinely need to grow about thirty more pairs of eyeballs if I have any hope of panning any of it.)

So what are the New Year beauty resolutions or soft goals that the Beauty Review crew are taking into 2023? Read on...

BR Merilyn:

I need to change things up a bit. So, my goal for the coming year is to stop getting stuck in a 'makeup look rut', both from a product perspective and an application perspective.

(BR Kellie editorial note: Does this mean that eyeshadow palette collection of yours is going to grow, BR Queenie? I have MANY recommendations.)

BR Natalie:

I am going to continue with my retinol routine - out of everything I've used it is the one ingredient I truly believe makes an impact on the signs of ageing. I've become a huge fan of the L'Oréal Retinol Pressed Cream that we sent out to trial. I'm on bottle 3!

BR Tabatha:

Use. A. Skincare. Product. Up. Before. Buying. A. Fresh. One.

I'm not even joking when I say I have about six different moisturisers open on my bedside table right now, about four different serums in my bathroom, and who knows how many body moisturisers sitting around in a state of half-use. I'll be working my way through these before I'm allowed to cough up cash for something new.

That being said... Products that make their way across my desk for work don't count. That's research. (Your girl loves a little wriggle room!)

BR Amelia:

During 2022 I've become more aware of my environmental footprint, and have worked to reduce unnecessary waste in my beauty routine, while buying products that can be recycled or have been made using recycled products. In 2023, as an extension of that, I'll be avoiding any cosmetics (or products in general) that have glitter in them. The damage it does to the waterways is not so sparkly, and I'd feel better knowing I'm not contributing to that.

BR Kellie:

As for little miss 'I don't do resolutions because I'll break it the second I make it'? I think this coming year I'll steal a little of what BR Tabby is doing - because I too have many half-used products sitting on my bedside table. I'll definitely continue to try and buy more eco-friendly products a la BR Amelia. And I'll try and buy less eyeshadow palettes... while urging BR Merilyn to buy more, because shopping by osmosis is a thing and there's nothing more satisfying than opening a fresh palette and admiring all the pretties.

So, my sweetpeas, do tell... What beauty new year resolutions will you be undertaking in 2023? Or will you be giving resolutions a wide swerve? Get chatting below!

I definitely have a few products I’ll be trying to use up…

10th January, 2023

I do not do new years resolutions in general. Any time is a good time to form a good habit!

7th January, 2023

I need to start following my skincare routine and not being lazy!

4th January, 2023

Getting rid of things I don't use and become fitter :-)

1st January, 2023

To stop buying things i don't need that then just sit in my cupboard not being used!

I would love to say that I will throw everything out and start again, but I probably won't do it. Even though I totally should. Covid left me with half used products that I would've used if I'd gone to work. I can't throw out anything unless it's empty - which is bad form when it comes to skin care and make-up! (and my whole wardrobe could go in a bin bag as well, to be honest!) Maybe THIS will be the year!!!!
