28 April, 2023 - 05:47am by - Head Pixie | 10 Comments

by BR Amelia

Over the years, the Beauty Review crew has had the opportunity to chat with the amazing founders, directors and marketing managers of some of New Zealand's biggest and best beauty brands. Women who've inspired us with their ambition, their vision, their ability to take an idea and make it reality. Naturally, during the course of our conversations beauty tips have come up and been shared. Check out five of our favourites...

Ima Asali - Founder of Mellow Cosmetics

Skin care always should come first for every woman when it comes to beauty, but if we are talking about makeup, drawing perfect eyebrows on! It really helps if those eyebrows are on point when you are doing your makeup.

Cleanse the skin, exfoliate, tone and hydrate. AND make sure you are protected in the sun. This can be with a product and clothing/hats and also avoid being in the sun when it’s at its hottest. I have a hot tip on this – always have a scarf in your handbag that you can wrap around your neck and decolletage if you are outside. It’s so handy if you are enjoying sitting outside at a café for example.

Maree Glading - Director of evre.

I am sure it has been said before on here, but it has to be to use sunscreen every day. This is not only a beauty tip but a health tip too. I recently had a skin cancer scare and literally cringe thinking of my teenage years when I use to lather myself in baby oil! You only have one skin and prevention is always the first measure to take.

Nicola Macfarlane - Manuka Doctor

If you are serious about getting into the skincare industry – make sure to look after your own from any age! Always take your make up off at night, add a serum like our ApiNourish Age-Defying Serum into your daily regimen to feed your skin and always wear sunblock.

Merilyn Havler - Founder of Beauty Review

Take the time to watch a YouTube clip to how to curl your hair with straighteners. You won’t regret it. Don’t persevere on your own – you’ll end up looking like you’re wired to the national grid.

(You didn't think we could do a round up of best beauty advice without adding in a nugget of gold from our very own Merilyn, did you?)

And there we have it! Five fab pieces of advice from women who are rocking the beauty industry!

So, do you agree with their pearls of wisdom? Is there anything else you'd add? Chat below!

All brilliant tips - and I do always keep a scarf or even a small umbrella in my bag in case of sunny emergencies, when my daily sunblock just doesn't feel like it's enough. I may be slightly obsessive...

Great advice from these ladies,

4th May, 2023

Oh absolutely yes to all of this except I am lucky enough to already have wavy/curly hair.

I am hopeless at hair curling, need to watch those tutorials on Youtube. I always wear a hat in the Sun now and apply spf50, wish I had done this when younger, I have sun damage on face and forearms, brown patches on face and white sunspots on arms.

2nd May, 2023

I totally agree with using sun protection, as mentioned by several of the amazing ladies!

Yes to all of it. Cleansing and sun avoiding! I can't curl my hair Merilyn - I'm too gumby!!!

1st May, 2023

Totally agree - haven't mastered hair curling...still. haha.

I think you also need to feel good about yourself as that projects around you.
