What weird comment, recommendation, or piece of advice have you been given by an absolute stranger?
I thought this might make for a funny read on the forum if it gets going.
I went to the dentist today and saw someone I've never had work on my teeth before (I only moved to this town last year). I had to have three fillings replaced and 20 mins into my 1.5 hour long appointment, my jaw muscles started cramping badly from holding my jaw open. I had to ask for a break and if it was possible for me to get a bite block to reduce the pain. While the dental assistant was out of the room fetching the correct sized block, he (the dentist) passed a comment which I felt was quite inappropriate ... "I always think you ladies should have no problem holding your mouth open without it cramping, if you know what I mean.' *wink*, followed by a crude chuckle. Thankfully, the dental assistant walked back in and I chose not to response or acknowledge his comment, but it left me feeling uncomfortable. I was actually too shocked to even think of a witty comeback.

Has anyone bought and tried the Hello Silky at home IPL device? If so, what was your experience like?
I've just ordered one on their Easter weekend sale, after doing a bunch of research and reading reviews. I'm just wondering if it's worth it.

Movies recently seen:
The Dish (an old movie, but a good one, on NF)
Glass Onion (a murder mystery)
The School of Good & Evil
Passengers
All Quiet on the Western Front
The Duke (Helen Mirren & Matthew Goode) this weekend, apparently it's based on a true story.
Also been watching The Last of Us, Swamp Thing (neon), just finished Blockbuster and 1899 - what a mind bender!

This past month has been awful with all the rain. Glad to hear others are all safe.
The first batch of floods didn't affect us too badly, although we had bags packed and were ready to evacuate if necessary, but it didn't come to that. Then cyclone Gabrielle hit and our garden got hammered for three days. We'd barely recovered from that when we had a flash flood on the 24th Feb. Our entire property flooded and our house surrounded by water. We evacuated, not knowing if we'd have a home to return to the next day.
Thankfully, we were extremely lucky. Our house is raised and the waist deep water was 8cm away from coming inside. It all happened so fast. 400mm rain in six hours compared to only 90mm per day during the cyclone. I have never seen so much water rise so fast before. It was scary, and not an experience I'd like to repeat. I'm just grateful my cat, Lucy, decided to come inside before we evacuated so that we could take her with. I would have felt awful if we'd left her behind.
I really feel for those in the Esk Valley and other areas who haven't been so fortunate.

Concealer is usually a shade or two lighter than your foundation, as concealer needs to lift, lighten and disguise areas (as opposed to creating a shadow or making something recede, which darker colours do. ie: contour, bronzer, etc.).
If she only used concealer in store, it's possible that the concealer was matched to disguise the port wine stain so that it can be worn on it's own without foundation, but then the foundation should have been the same shade. It sounds like the foundation may have been matched to your skin tone, not taking the concealer she'd given you into account, which is why it's lighter.
Have you tried using the concealer under the foundation? How did it look? Did you then try the concealer over the foundation to see if it worked any differently? You could also try blending a bit of the concealer and foundation together before using that to disguise the blemish, before using foundation only on the rest of your face.
There's no right or wrong way of layering these products, it's just a matter of personal preference and finding what works best for you.

@Tabucutie, try using this NZ nail salon finder. It only shows qualified nail techs.
@Whittakers-Lover, I've messaged you on IG :)
Natural nails need to be buffed lightly (with a hand held buffer, not an electric file) to remove shine and give the product a slightly rough surface to stick to. Isopropyl alcohol or acetone needs to be used after this to remove dust and oils. Using alcohol or acetone only, without buffing, will work but the polish won't last as long and will start lifting prematurely as there's no rough surface for it to cling to. The buffing doesn't need to be vigorous, just enough to remove shine from the nail - usually 4-5 swipes of the buffer gently over the nail plate working on different areas with each swipe. I do one across the cuticle, once down each side, once across the middle and once over the tip.
The gel polish won't affect the strength of your nails, but incorrect prep (too much buffing) and incorrect removal of the gel polish will. If gel polish is not soaked off properly and is picked, peeled or forced off, this will take layers of your natural nail with it, thinning them out.
If done properly, a light buff and proper removal won't ruin your nails at all. I've been wearing gel polish constantly for 8 years with no issues. I posted a pic on the PhotoWall of my natural nails a few months ago - there's no damage.

I'm so sad that Skinfood is closing down. I just loved their body butter, mud masque and a few other items.
They're having a 60% off closing sale if anyone is interested.

@Whittakers-lover, yes, I do wear lip balm daily. I apply it multiple times throughout the day, and a final application at night when I climb into bed. Often the bedtime application will last all night and leave me with soft, moisturised lips in the morning. It's just something I've always done, even as a child I remember applying lip balm before going to sleep.
Essie's base coats and top coats are great, especially the Good To Go top coat. Seche Vita is another fabulous top coat. Always use a base coat and top coat - the base coat prevents any yellow tones in the polish colour from staining the nail plate, it also creates the perfect smooth surface for the colour to glide onto, and it helps the colour adhere to the nail. Top coat seals in the colour, adds extra shine and longevity to your manicure / pedicure.
Hi Ladies, I have a friend with very sensitive skin, and she's looking for recommendations for skincare products (cleanser, serum and moisturiser). I can't help her, as I'm lucky in that I can use most products on my skin with no problems.
Any recommendations from others with very sensitive skin would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a problem that I'm hoping someone can help with ... Whenever I have my face dermaplaned, whether by a professional or if I do an at-home peach fuzz removal with a facial razor, I end up experiencing a breakout the next day that lasts for a week or more.
When dermaplaning at home, I always cleanse my face first, clean the blade of the (salon quality) razor with isopropyl alcohol and let it dry before I start. I remove the fuzz in the same direction as the hair growth, and wash the razor, cleaning it again with isopropyl alcohol before putting it away. I rinse my face with water only and gently pat dry before applying moisturiser.
I can't figure out why my skin breaks out every single time. I don't have sensitive skin, or any other skin issues. Any suggestions?

I've been an active member since 18 September 2014 (previous username was Silvene). I initially joined as I'd immigrated to NZ in July 2013 and wanted a way to "meet" like-minded ladies all over NZ. The forum has definitely changed over the last few years and is no longer what it once was, but this is still a great community to be a part of.
Thank you, BR, for letting me be a part of this. It really is appreciated.
Happy 10th anniversary!

Hi Ladies,
I've just changed my BR username from Silvene to RamblingRose (which is the name of my business). Just wanted to pop it here on the forum in case anyone is wondering what happened to "Silvene".
I'm still around, just decided to change my BR username to go along with our new house, new suburb, new community, new clientele and my new outlook on life, after these last few crazy months ... We moved twice in six weeks, it was not fun, but we're all settled in now and I'm loving small town life so far!

@Millyw, my hair gets horribly static in winter. It doesn't help that it's really fine. At my last hair appointment it went static in the hairdresser's chair while she was brushing it pre-trim. She told me to get a leave-in conditioner and to just apply a tiny amount to the mid-lengths and ends and to leave it on.
The only leave-in conditioner I could find was for kids, but it does the trick. I've used it a few times when my hair has gone static and it smoothes it out straight away and stops the static.

It looks like they're only filing for a certain type of bankruptcy in the US, Canada and the UK. I don't quite know how that works, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I just had a look but don't need any of the clearance items. Thanks for the alert, Tabu.
I don't know if it's a typo, but their make-up primer is going for $1. Here's the link to the clearance items

Not quite as nice as an actual bidet or a bidet toilet seat, a cheaper option is a bidet hose that connects to your existing toilet's cistern.
Just thought I'd pop that here for those seriously considering it. We don't have one, but would love to get one, and can't install the hose type because we're on tank water and not mains (not enough pressure).

@Maree, it's the same up here (on the Hibiscus Coast). Our local Countdown has had various empty shelves for weeks, not much meat selection, and limited fruit and veg. I chatted with one of the staff members and apparently its due to freight issues and problems with getting things that are imported - everything is taking longer so they're not getting their supplies in as regularly as they normally would.
It really surprised me to find out that most of the locally grown fruit, veg, meat and other goods are exported because it can be sold at a higher price overseas, and then we end up having to pay for the same items in our supermarkets that have been imported from elsewhere!

Does anyone still use Udderly Pure Goat Milk Soap? If so, where do you get yours from?
I tried to find their website today, with no luck, and their Google Business listing says that they're permanently closed, so maybe they didn't make it through all these lockdowns. Sad if that is what's happened, their soap was lovely.

I don't suffer from restless legs, but I happened to be chatting about the syndrome to one of my clients this afternoon, and she was telling me that she's recently started using an under the tongue spray and that it's marvellous. She says she feels the effects within 20 mins.
Just thought I'd share that here.

One day left of the Oh, For Craft's Sake online craft market. If you want to have a browse through what's available for sale, the items are grouped into categories: Under $15 Under $30 Under $50 Over $50
The Oh, For Craft's Sake online craft market is now open (it opened at 7:30pm) and runs until the 26th Nov. head over to their Facebook page and browse the relevant albums (under $15, under $30, under $50 and over $50) to see items up for sale.

Yes, it starts tomorrow! You get to do your Christmas shopping at a craft market, all from the comfort of your own home.
They have been posting sneak peeks of the products going up for sale on both their Facebook and Instagram pages (@ohforcraftssakenz), so have a look when you have a few minutes to spare. Thank you. [/color]

Sketchers are super lightweight and very comfortable, but I found the soles on mine wore out very quickly. I now have a pair of ASICS GT-Duomax, and they're the best walking shoes I've ever owned. Great arch support, nice cushioned sole with plenty of grip, and a breathable mesh fabric upper that helps keep my feet cool.
Chemist Warehouse have the Milky Foot peel ones.
I prefer to use a gradual tanning moisturiser. I've tried a few different brands over the years, and my favourite is definitely Palmers Natural Bronze. They also do a coconut oil one, for those who like a more coconutty smell.
For those of you interested in lip oils (see latest BR article on home page), here are a few links for you ... Yes, I have far too much time on my hands, thanks to lockdown.

There's an NZ brand called Bronte Body that do eco razors and bundles. I haven't got one yet, but one of their bundle packs is on my Christmas wish list, so fingers crossed. :)
If you clean and then spray the roller with isopropyl alcohol after use and let it dry, it will be fine, you shouldn't have any issues with breakouts or infection. Like any other beauty tool, the key is to clean and disinfect after each use.
I use isopropyl alcohol to disinfect my facial razor (dermaplane razor) and epilator after each use, and I use my epilator on my face and body (cleaning and spraying the heads between uses or on different body areas) and I've never had any issues. Isopropyl alcohol is also cheaper than most other disinfectant sprays and works just as well, and it's easily purchased from any pharmacy, along with a little travel spray bottle to put it in.
Note: 70% isopropyl alcohol is a better disinfectant than 100% (pure) isopropanol, which evaporates too quickly to disinfect.

Still stuck in Level 4 up here, although not being able to work is giving me time to catch up on a bunch of craft projects that I've had sitting around and just not had the time to do (two decoupage projects, making a large jewellery display board, and a few knitting projects).
Unfortunately, the table that I'm decoupaging is half done (all the sanding and paintwork is done), I can't start applying the design yet, as the napkins I ordered can't be couriered until we're in Level 3, and I really want to finish it.

I love baking but don't do it much anymore. I have a pre-diabetic hubby who can't have cakes, sweets and puddings, as we control his pre-diabetes with the foods he eats. I refuse to bake just for myself because I feel mean eating things like that in front of him, knowing he can't have any. I have been craving a good vanilla cupcake or slice of cake though, but I'll have to wait until after all this lockdown stuff is over and see if our local cafe has any once they reopen (if they reopen).
I tried going grocery shopping yesterday, but most of the shelves were empty. I managed to get what I needed, or substitutes / creative swaps for what I needed for meals for the next week. I don't plan on going near the store again unless it's for bread and milk.
Unfortunately, I'm one of those who is not allowed to work in levels 3 & 4, and have to close my business and wait patiently for level 2. It sucks, but it needs to be done to help get this under control.

What's everyone doing to keep themselves busy during lockdown? Other than daily walks and a bit of extra Netflix when it's been raining, I've been knitting myself a jumper ...
I thought it was going really well. I got as far as the armpits before I realised I'd misread the pattern and had to unpick the entire thing! Two and a half weeks of work all gone in half a hour. Now to start again. At least it'll keep me busy for a few more weeks, although I was hoping to wear it this winter.

Buffering issues are usually to do with your own internet connection and less likely to be their servers. It can depend on what type of internet connection you're using: fibre, fixed wireless, DSL, VDSL, satellite or cellular. We have fibre and haven't experienced any buffering issues and we watch something Neon every night, sometimes quite late, too.
Maybe check your internet connection (there's usually a setting on your TV), make sure all the plugs are plugged in securely to your modem, TV and wall plugs. Sometimes plugs and wires are bumped when cleaning and the connection becomes a little loose.

I did the same, forgot about the cap until I read your posts! I added everything I wanted to my cart, and managed to get everything, so it must have come in under the cap. Lol.
This is one of my favourite vaults to date. It was seamless, with a quick refresh between pages, even on my tablet, and not a single glitch in sight! Compared to the vaults from 2014/2015, with their high stress, lost connections and nightmare FOMO and panic, the new vault system is absolutely fabulous and a wonderful shopping experience!
Thank you, BR Crew, for all your hard work!

A silvery grey eyeshadow with a darker grey in the crease and outer corner looks stunning on blue eyes in photos. Browns can work, too, just make sure they're warm toned to make your eyes pop.
Stay away from any blue or green makeup in photos - somehow, it drains all colour from the skin. Avoid pink or pinky tones on blue eyes (can make it look like you've got puffy eyes or been crying). And don't forget to check your face powder ... if it contains titanium dioxide, you might get white flashback if a flash is used.

There are a few items I'd be interested in ... Problem is Friday night is movie night in our house, so there's a big possibility that I'm either going to forget and miss the vault, or not hear my reminder go off.
If I manage to take part, yay, if not, there's always next time. Although, I did like being able to shop the vault whenever I needed a few items (when it was permanently open, like previous months).

Yoga by Kassandra (on YouTube) has a 30 days of Bedtime Yoga. It's a lovely, slow, relaxing, Yin Yoga - more like stretching and unwinding than actual flow yoga.
I remember when I had my wisdom teeth out ... I looked like a chipmunk for two weeks from the swelling (had all 4 taken out at the same time).
I lived on soup, mashed potato mixed with lots of milk to make it more like a purée, mashed pumpkin, smashed avocado, jelly, yoghurt, scrambled eggs, applesauce, and hummus. It is a bit weird eating some of these on their own with no usual chips or toast, etc.
I couldn't tolerate the slimy texture of mashed banana, and could only eat instant oats after four days or so, once the stitched area started healing a bit.

@Shaz, is this what you're looking for? It's a 2 litre bottle of ultrasonic jewellery cleaning concentrate (the only one I could find online).
You could try contacting a Jaycar store, as they sell ultrasonic jewellery cleaners and might sell or know of where you could get the relevant cleaning liquid from.

Hi, Tannygirl, it's good to see you back on the forum. If you have qualified and already have your diploma, think about signing up for wholesale accounts with various NZ beauty suppliers. They will ask for proof of your qualification before your wholesale account is approved, but it only takes a day or so and saves you heaps in the long run.
I'm not sure what area you live in, but if you plan on opening your own salon (in rented premises or from home) you may have to apply and pay for an annual Health & Safety License, depending on the relevant area council rules. Trading without a license (even from a home-based salon) can incur a hectic fine if the council requires you to have one. Just another cost for you to keep in mind and look into.

I was wondering what Mita ad you ladies were all talking about. I usually log onto BR on my tablet (no ads), but today I logged in on my laptop to write a product review, as it's safer than doing it on the tablet, and BAM! Mita advert smack bang right over the top of the review box. It took me a good few minutes to figure out how to close the stupid box, as it wouldn't let me finish doing the review while the ad was on screen. So irritating. I have another review to write now ... at least now I know where to close the box!
We've tried a few natural deodorants over the past six years. If you don't mind using a paste that you spread on with your fingers, then No.3 Underbalm is the best. If you prefer a stick style, Raw Nature works really well.
We've also tried Mia Belle (disappointing), Ethique (difficult to apply when the bar got smaller than 1/3), and a few others that I can't remember the names of.

Unfortunately, it will all depend on how pigmented the brand of eyeshadow you have is. It can help using an eyelid primer (like NYX HD eye primer), but personally, I prefer to use a cream eyeshadow as a primer. I find a light flesh-toned cream eyeshadow just helps my eyeshadows to look more pigmented, they also stay where I put them, and don't crease at all.
@Lisa-Lou, I have a pair of the short Ugg boots (just above the ankle). I've had them for 6 years and wear them both inside and outside. The fleecy bit on the bottom sole has worn away around the toes and heel, but the rest of the Ugg still looks and feels 'new'. I got a pair of possum fur soles that I popped into the Ugg's last winter (to replace the worn out bit), and now they're toasty warm and soft again.
I've only just caught up on the forum news for the past week (I haven't been onto BR or browsed through social media for the past 9 days - I needed a break).
@shaz, so sorry to hear you were scammed out of your money. You can report it via FB, but they probably won't do much. The better thing would be to name and shame her on the buy & sell page, to warn others, and to message the page admin/s and tell them what happened. They should block her from listing further items and scamming anyone else.

I have a few products that I didn't like for various reasons, and repurposed them instead of throwing them out:
- Facial cleansing oil repurposed as a shaving oil
- Face serum repurposed as an after shave serum on my legs
- Facial exfoliator used as a body scrub
- Night cream used as body moisturiser

Thank you, Soozie. Lucy will respond to cat treats during the day, but when she knows it's inside time, she chooses to have selective hearing and "not hear" the cat snack packet.
Hahaha, is your cat's name Dexter by any chance?
Speaking of Dexter, I don't know how many of you saw the post on Facebook this morning, but after eight years, there's another season of Dexter being released in fall/autum in the USA, so spring for us. I can't wait! I loved the show and the books.

Lisa, your dog and my cat sound very similar! Please pop a pic of your dog on the photo wall. I'll pop a pic of Lucy up there.
She's out the cat flap as soon as we unlock it in the mornings. Catching her at 5.30pm to lock her inside for the night used to be a nightmare ... She thinks it's great fun to be chased around the garden while she runs flat out, meanwhile I'm left puffing and out of breath after 15 minutes of trying to catch her. Haha. After a few months of having her, I realised she's very food orientated, so I either call her in for another brush before feeding her, or I rattle the kitty snack packet (which doesn't always work). But thankfully, the little scamp is slowly learning there's a routine and has started coming inside on her own now that it's getting chilly in the evenings.

It's a lovely day up here, too, Shaz. I've just finshed watching last night's episode of Call the Midwife (On Demand), so it's time to head out into the sunshine to brush my crazy floof rocket ... a 2-year old calico cat that runs around the garden at high speed. The only time she sits still is when I brush her or feed her, otherwise she moves at one speed - full throttle zoom. I don't know where she gets all that energy from!
I've named all the cars I've owned, and they've all been boys names because men insist on naming their cars and boats after women, so I name my cars (and my hubby's) after men. So far, I've had a Percy, Charlie and Timmy. My hubby had an unnamed car (when I met him), then when he bought his next car it was named Nigel, his current one is Tank.

I wanted to like OPI but after using it a couple of times once it had dried it left tiny bubbles and holes on the nail polish on my nail where other brands dont do that
Intrigued by the concept of "just add water" to adhere lashes. I've tried most other types of lashes: standard glue, magnetic, adhesive eyeliner. Was interested to see how these compared.
Gorgeous style. Taking the lashes out of the pack, they were quite stiff. The lashes are pre glued. The instructions say to dip in water. I tried dipping my finger in water and running it across the lash band. This wasn't enough. I dipped the lash band in water and got the root of the lashes wet also.
Admittedly, instructions said to wait 1 min and I probably waited a bit less than that and tried to apply the lash. Very stingy in my eyes! I think it's cause the water/glue mixture ran right into my eyes. It wouldn't stay on much to my frustration.
After trying twice more, I still couldn't get them to adhere, or for a long duration; I gave up and used adhesive eyeliner. Did somewhat manage to get the other lash adhered with water. One for each eye to compare.
The water one lasted 4 hours before I had to remove and reapply. It wouldn't stay on. Says it is for 3 applications but I couldn't get a full one use.
This is just my experience with it, but it's not for me. I'm glad i can still get use out of the lashes using adhesive eyeliner but no more water use. It's not something I'd purchase but would still recommend if your looking for an alternative lash option. It may work out better for you and if not, lashes can still be used with a glue option.
After hearing so many you tubers go on about how amazing this foundation was I finally gave in and purchased a tube myself. Note the one the you tubers rave on is not the same formulation as the one you can purchase here and I think the overseas formulation might be a bit better than this.
I wanted to try as it claims to last for 24 hours and is matte.
It comes in a nice little tube with a small nozzle which is good, as it means you don't squeeze it and a heap of product oozes out!
It's quite easy to see how much is left in the tube as most of the tube is transparent.
Price wise, it's not too bad, especially compared to double wear which some say this can be a dupe for.
I choose shade 20 Sand which was a pretty good match for me over winter, not so much for summer.
The best way I found to apply it was with a brush or beauty blender - both were equally as easy to apply and seemed to produce the same result.
The formulation is fairly liquid but not too liquid, which I like.
For my oily skin it wasn't too bad but I won't purchase again as it definitely does not last 24 hours - I think it could claim to last around 7-8 hours. By the end of the work day I can start to notice it sliding around my face big time. It came off my nose and chin the quickest as those are the places I seem to touch the most. It improves if you set it, but I feel with a matte foundation you shouldn't have to set it.
Coverage wise, huge fail - this is not a heavy coverage foundation as stated on the tube. It's medium at best!
All in all it's not bad, but for me, it's not good enough to repurchase.
I selected Essie Gel Couture in “Spiked With Style” (#360) for this trial. The polish is bottled in a clear twisted Essie branded glass bottle, so that the colour of the deep red polish is visible through the glass, while the top coat is in an opaque white twisted bottle.
There is no base coat with this gel couture system. It’s designed to be used as a two-step process; two coasts of colour followed by one coat of ‘platinum grade finish’ top coat.
To start, I filed and shaped my nails, pushed back the cuticles, gave them a light buff and then cleansed them well with nail polish remover to remove any natural nail oils before applying the first coat of polish.
The wide, flat, round ended brush mirrors the cuticle area perfectly, making it really easy to get a perfect coat in just 4 swipes of the brush; one down the middle, one down each side, and then one across the tip to cap the free edge. By the time I’d painted my second hand, the thin layer of polish on the first hand was dry and ready for a second coat.
Something I did notice is that this polish has quite a cold feel on the nails with each layer, including the top coat. Any accidental messes on the skin are easily cleaned up with a bit of nail polish remover on a cotton bud.
I did wait 10 minutes between applying the second coat and the top coat, as I wanted to be sure that the colour was dry. The top coat has a really nice thin consistency that applies really well. It’s better than any other traditional lacquer top coat that I’ve used the the past. It doesn’t smudge the colour coats below (like some top coats do), and has a very smooth looking and vibrant high-shine.
Silly me dinged one of my thumbs before the top coat was dry, and smudged the colour underneath, but it was easily fixed by rubbing a finger dipped in a tiny bit of nail polish remover lightly over the dented polish to smooth it out, and then simply reapplying a coat of top coat after the initial application had dried fully.
Tips: (Review continued) ... The twisted shape of these bottles makes it horribly uncomfortable to roll the bottles before use, and Essie should have considered this, especially since they recommend that polish bottles be rolled not shaken. (Shaking polish introduces air bubbles, which affect both the formula over time and the polish application.) These bottles also don’t fit into each other, the twists and bases don’t line up, so they take up a lot more room than Essie’s traditional square bottles, or round polish bottles do.
After 3 hours of typing the next day, the tips started to show signs of wear on the tips. By day 6, the wear was quite bad on my index fingernails, and on day 7 it began chipping on multiple nails. I removed the polish and reapplied on day 8 as we were going away. I will update later as to how this polish held up while I was on holiday vs when I was at work. With Essie’s Gel Couture it’s said that you can get up to 14 days wear, but with other enamel polishes I usually end up with wear and chipping after 2-3 days, so 7 days wear before chipping for gel couture is really not bad.
After removing the polish on day 8, my nails had a definite pinkish tinge to them. So, yes, even though this polish is designed to be used without a base coat, the dark red colour of Spiked With Style does definitely stain my nails slightly.
Lipodol Cleansing Face Oil is manufactured in South Africa and distributed by Union Swiss (the makers of Bio-Oil) to New Zealand. Union Swiss have launched six skincare oils under the brand name "Lipidol" to bring oils into the daily skincare routine and help the skin to retain moisture.
Lipidol Cleansing Face Oil effectively removes dirt, impurities and make-up without completely stripping the skin's mantle (the natural oily layer needed to protect and moisturiser your skin).
The cleansing oil is a beautiful turquoise colour with no artificial smell or scent and is packaged in a clear plastic, 125ml bottle with a screw top white lid which is sealed in a plastic wrapper. The bottle is is the perfect size to store in the bathroom or in a travel bag.
After being really disappointed with a different brand's Cleansing Balm, I thought I'd try a cleansing oil instead and Lipidol was really affordable.
I have used this oil over the bathroom basin, as well as in the shower. It's easy to use and needs to be applied to a dry face. Pour some of the oil into the palm of your hand, rub hands together and massage the oil over your dry face and eye make-up to bind any dirt, impurities and make-up with the oil.
I usually use about a teaspoonful on a full face of make-up (half a teaspoon for light make-up) and I do lightly massage it around my eyes and over my eyelids and eyelashes, using really light pressure and the pads of my ring fingertips to remove eyeliner and mascara. Add a little warm water and continue massaging, the oil will emulsify into a watery, creamy solution that can easily be rinsed off with warm water and it leaves absolutely no oily residue. As it emulsifies completely, it doesn't leave eyes feeling blurry or filmy like other oil cleansing methods might.
I will definitely repurchase this product and highly recommend it.
Tips: Use about a teaspoonful on heavy or full face make-up, half a teaspoon for light make-up.
A full sized 25ml tube of Natural Instinct Dark Circle & Wrinkle Correction Eye Cream was in a BBBE Box that I bought. This eye cream promises to intensively hydrate, reduce puffiness and smooth fine lines, while banishing dark circles and lifting the eye area. It contains Troxerutin, a powerful plant derived anti-inflammatory active ingredient to help reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, while promoting cell renewal; Saccharide Isomerate, to provide intense hydration and strengthen skin; Coffee Seed Oil to reduce puffiness and promote firmer looking skin; and Aloe Vera to soothe and nurture the delicate eye area.
This eye cream can be used morning and night (after cleansing), by gently dabbing the cream on around the eye area with the ring fingers. Ring fingers are always used to apply eye cream, as they exert the least amount of pressure and don't tug at the delicate skin.
So far, this eye cream is one of my favorites. It works really well, and is also free from petrochemicals, mineral oils, sulphates, silicones, parabens, animal derivatives, and artificial fragrances and colours, just to name a few. It is vegan friendly, and not tested on animals.
There is only one thing that I don't really like about Natural Instinct Dark Circle & Wrinkle Correction Eye Cream, and that is the size of the tube. 25ml is a rather large tube for an eye cream, and having an expiry date of 12 months after opening, I doubt that I'm going to finish the entire tube before it's due to be replaced. I would much prefer a 10ml or 15ml tube that I can simply replace when I run out, rather than having a large tube of wasted, expired product that I probably will have to throw away.
Other than that, Natural Instinct Dark Circle & Wrinkle Correction Eye Cream is lovely. It does hydrate and moisturize the delicate skin around my eyes, it is easily absorbed, it does help reduce puffiness and dark circles that I get from bad hayfever, and it does help to smooth out and reduce the appearance of fine lines. I'll definitely be repurchasing this eye cream in the future, and would recommend it.
Tips: Apply a tiny bit to your ring finger (you don't need too much), then rub both rings fingers together before applying it around the eye area
I'd been looking for a purple or violet mascara for a long time, and after trying Almay's "Black Plum" which was disappointing, I found NYX Colour Mascara in Purple.
The colour was exactly what I was looking for - a bright, vibrant purple. I have quite dark eyelashes, so I had to layer quite a few coats to get the colour to show, and it didn't add any length or volume to my lashes. It has a standard mascara wand that is not huge and fluffy, but like a regular spoolie. The formula of the mascara doesn't clump for flake, and it easily coats each individual lash, washing off easily at the end of the day with a foaming cleanser.
It's a great, affordable coloured mascara that I would consider repurchasing, as I haven't come across any other decent purple-coloured mascaras that are actually a true purple or violet colour.
Tips: If you want a bit more length, volume or a more vibrant colour, wait for each coat to dry before applying a bit more.
I bought my e.l.f. Small Stipple Brush from Kmart, and it has a unique two-layer two-tone black and white bristle design with soft textured layers, which help to create an almost airbrushed effect when used to apply foundation.
The brush makes it easy to create a sheer to light application by swirling the brush around in circles, spreading the foundation over the skin, and can also be used to build up coverage to medium or full by dabbing or "stippling" the foundation in areas that need extra coverage. The design of the bristles makes it easy to get into those hard to reach places around the corners of the nose and under the eyes.
This brush is perfect to use with cream, liquid and even powder products, and the bristles remain soft even after many washes, just be careful not to get the ferrule wet (the metal part that holds the bristles onto the handle), as getting water inside the ferrule will cause the glue to soften and weaken, which causes bristles to fall out.
For a cheap, affordable brush, I was quite surprised that it worked so well. It's great for use on oily and combination skins, although I'd be a little wary of using a stipple brush on sensitive or very dry skin, as a brush can aggravate sensitive skin or highlight very dry patches of skin by lifting them (a sponge or beauty blender is usually best to use on very dry skin).
Tips: Clean it regularly with Micellar Water or Baby Shampoo and lay it flat with the handle slightly raised, bristles pointing down (to prevent water running into the ferrule) to dry.
A full size, 100ml tube of Skinfood Gel Cleanser was the Day 21 gift in a 2017 beauty Advent Calendar.
Made in New Zealand with bio-active ingredients, including guava, mango, papaya and cucumber extract, this gel cleanser promises to naturally cleanse and soothe the face, leaving skin fresh and soft.
So, does it live up to its promises? Well, I found this gel cleanser to be really gentle, yet quite effective, even on oily skin. It doesn't foam up like a foaming cleanser, but it does produce a tiny bit of lather when a little water is added and it rinses away cleanly, leaving no residue. As with most of Skinfood's products, it smells delicious!
I only have one problem with this product, and that is with the packaging. The gel has a very liquid consistency, so when the flip top tube is opened and upended to squeeze a little out, it's really hard to control how much product comes out. The gel literally just runs out on its own without the tube even being squeezed. A pump-style bottle (or even the same tube with a pump nozzle) would be a lot easier to use and much more economical, as I find I wasted a lot of product while it was in the original Skinfood packaging.
To sum it up, I do like this cleanser and would consider repurchasing it, but only of the packaging is changed.
Tips: I ended up decanting this into an empty travel-sized pump bottle that I had. It reduced waste and made it so much easier to use in the shower.
For the price its fine, but it drys in the tube quickly and you get minimal product, so you'd have to constantly repurchase it. It was annoying to use as it was dry and made eyeliner difficult, was a lovely dark black when it came on though, but you'd have to have the time to use this product, not in a rushed scenario.
Tips: Always tighten the cap to prevent further drying of the liner
