Four Foundations For Dry Skin, And How To Apply Them!

Trying to find the perfect foundation for dry skin can be a downright debacle. There's fine lines to think about, as well as less than fine lines, not to mention textured spots. You also have to consider foundation formulation - you don't want it too thick, but you'd like it to cover something, and glowy sparkles are out of the question, because those things love sticking to flaky skin and creating a disco ball on the areas we're trying to hide.

So what foundations are kind to dry skin? We've rounded up four of the best that the Beauty Review community have tried, reviewed and loved, giving them the coveted Top Rated badge of approval. And, to top if off, we've put together four fantastic tips to ensure a beautiful application every time!

L'Oréal Paris True Match Nude Plumping Tinted Serum - Rated 4.5/5

Tip One: Before applying foundation you need to prep your base. This means cleansing your skin, perhaps exfoliating if your skin is flaking, then applying a hydrating serum followed by a moisturiser. Bonus tip: let your skincare settle in for a good ten to twenty minutes before moving onto the makeup.

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Dewy + Smooth - Rated 4.5/5

Tip Two: Some say that you don't need to prime if you use a good enough moisturiser. Some would be right. However, I'm a believer that when it comes to dry skin, more is more. So find yourself a good hydrating primer and apply that to your skin. Once again, let it sit for a while so that you avoid pilling of product.

Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation - Rated 4.3/5

Tip Three: Easy does it. While it's tempting to go for the full coverage fantasy, caked on foundation will only emphasise fine lines and wrinkles and any texture on your skin. You're better off to lightly apply your foundation and just add a little more coverage in the areas where you need it with a hydrating concealer. And be sure, when you're applying your foundation, to go gently and apply it using a downward motion so as not to create any new flaky patches or fluff up any face fuzz.

Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Foundation - Rated 4.3/5

Tip Four: This is not a case of spray then walk away. Once you've finished your makeup (cream products for the win on dry skin!), give it a spritz with a hydrating finishing spray, then keep the mist on hand and refresh yourself whenever you see your skin start to look dehydrated.

And there you have it - four fab foundation and four fantastic tips to help you make the most of them!

Would love to try the Fit Me Foundation! I have super fry and sensitive skin so I’d definitely purchase this

Hmm might have to look into these

I love using Loreal foundation. It suits my skin and it's reasonably priced.

I don't use makeup, but if I did I'd definitely need a foundation for dry skin!

I still mostly use tinted moisturiser if anything at all. My skin dries out easily, but since covid I can't be bothered with much make up any more.

Some great foundations here! I am loving Wet n Wilds tinted hydrator which @aboutface kindly recommended. I have dry skin and it is brilliant and has amazing coverage. Give it a try it's only $10 @ Farmers.

Wet'n'Wild tinted hydrator is the best I've used. Doesn't crease, not dry or flaky, provides a lovely coverage. Brilliant for aging or dry skin. Honestly this is so good that I've found it better than high end brands and only $10, you can't go wrong:-)

So many things I didn't know I needed to be doing :( I have never found a foundation that has made me feel/look anything other than slightly flaky. I think I might go get me the Shiseido one to try!

Really helpful article, thanks! And I can absolutely vouch for the Shiseido Synchro Skin Radiant Lifting Foundation, which I love love love. But even with that, I still find the thing that works best for my dry skin is to blend my moisturiser and foundation and apply them together. I get hydration, a soft sheen finish and good coverage all in one.

Great article, l do try to apply primer and day cream with an spf , and found this to be a great help to stop the caking of makeup in my line areas , l even have put ( small amounts ) of Vaseline or moisturiser over my makeup to stop it showing my fine lined areas Does seem to help

It is great to have recommendations and hints but the only problem is getting the correct colour especially if you are buying online. With covid restrictions, you often can't try the testers. A little assistance can make a huge difference.

Good tips. I agree re the primer. More is more and plump, hydrated skin looks the best!
