For rehydration this mask doesn't mess around

Found at my local pharmacy I was on the hunt for a new mask to try out as I am a fan of multi-masking and like to have a few on hand for whatever my combination skin decides to do. Being that the Evolu range was on offer with 30% my eye naturally pulled me over to their display.

With combination skin I have masks for oily areas, acne breakout, purifying and detoxing as it is a balancing act and at the time of purchasing this mask I was noticing that the drier areas of my skin, especially around the lips and chin area, were getting so dry that I would be sore so the rehydrating mask with its claims of delivering deeper, longer lasting moisture was just what I wanted.

The texture was thick but expected for this type of mask, it was creamy enough to spread evenly over the areas that needed to be treated without straying too far into the oily areas, which I am so glad I took my time to do so as even after the first use I noticed that my skin in the dry areas were plumper and smoother.

I initally used it 3 times a week as like I said I was having a rather bad dry moment but found that was far too much for my skin and have since scaled it back to as needed as it very quickly did what it promised by helping the area retain moisture that a few days afterwards I awoke to a rather greasy chin area which is a little out of the normal and I was using my regular night cream for balancing my skin so knew instantly that it was a result of the mask. I can handle oily areas when covering with makeup but dry areas are just a pain as they get all flaky so I have found that once a week is more than enough.

I am thinking that as my skin ages more that I might have to incorporate this in more often as I think it will be fab for that as it really plumps up the skin which in turn makes it firmer and slightly lifted.

Rehydration Rescue

I was happy to be selected for this trial as my skin definitely feels the affects of the harsh winter air and tends to dry out.

The masque has a thick creamy consistency and when applied to the skin it feels more like a heavy moisturiser which absorbs completely. For this reason I decided to leave it on overnight as it has a comfortable feeling.

I definitely felt the affects of circulation quite soon after I applied it as my skin had a warm feeling, but not unpleasant

Once morning arrived I washed my face as usual and my skin was left feeling fairly hydrated but i wouldnt say i was impressed. I tested the product several times with the same result.

Healthy Hydration

This winter has left my skin dry. Drier that usual. I have patches of flaky skin on my cheeks and in-between my eyebrows. Foundation clings to these patches and it's not a good look.

I'd hoped Evolu's Rehydration rescue masque might help with this issue as my usual moisturisers weren't doing much.

The tube had me at hello with its purple colour embossed with the evolu log. The scent is divine - very orangey, which is a favourite aroma of mine.

It's packed full of the good stuff - grape and kiwifruit extract, Manuka oil, hazelnut, borage and kawakawa. My hopes were high.

The masque is creamy with a hint of orange, it spreads over the face clear and oh my gosh, does my skin suck it up? Yes it does. If I were to compare it to something it would be to a person who has walked 100ks on a hot day and gets given their first glass of water. I've tried it twice. The first time for 30 minutes in case of irritation. I washed it off with a warm flannel and my skin was oh so soft and those patches of dryness had reduced considerably. The second time I left it on overnight and my skin was so plump the next day and the dryness had disappeared. ... and not returned, as I'm using this a couple of times a week to keep on top of it.

This is now part of my skin care arsenal. It's amazing. Totally worth the price as a little goes a long way and it does what it says it will do.

Lovely masque!

For some reason face masks tend to disappoint me - I don't know if my expectations are too high and I'm anticipating miracles, but no matter the mask, deep cleanse, purifying, uber-moisturising, I find the results lacklustre.

Well, hello Evolu! Winter has left me with my usual super dry cheeks and forehead, like desert dry.

The packaging is lovely, very classy. A simple upside down squeeze tube. I like that it takes a bit of effort to squeeze out the product - no wastage!

60ml seems small for a moisturising mask, which tend to need slathering on, but this thick cream actually goes quite far. I couldn't find any instructions on how often to use it, so I've been using it a couple of times a week.

It goes on like a thick moisturiser and absorbs quite well, with just the 'feeling' of a layer left on your skin. When using overnight there was no obvious residue on my pillow, win!

I did feel a warming sensation, this wasn't on the packaging so I'm not sure if its typical, but I had no reaction/adverse effects, so I'm putting it down to the mask doing its thing.

Like all Evolu products the scent is absolutely divine. Natural, but not overly floral, its just nommy!

So far so good. But does it work? Well, my skin is softer than it's ever been, the dry patches were gone after the first use, I feel my skin looks brighter and more clear. I did experience a wee break out in my hair line and my nose crevices felt a little oily. On other uses I just avoided these areas and had no issue!

The only reason I've gone 4/5 is the price. I do think it's a wee bit pricey for the size, if the tube were bigger, I wouldn't bat an eyelid at paying it, as it is a great product.

Mixed Results

As with any new facial product I try, I tested this product on the back of my hand before trying it on my face. After a few hours I'd had no reaction so thought I was good to go. Unfortunately not. My skin has been really dry of late with the air conditioning being on so much at work, so I was looking forward to trialing this product. With my skin being as dry as it is I opted for the overnight option on the box; cleansing, toning and then using the product and leaving it on overnight. Day 1: I noticed my skin felt a little heavy in the morning prior to rinsing the product off, once rinsed off my skin was definitely softer although I noticed a bit of redness around my nose and chin. This quickly faded after rinsing and doing my normal skincare/makeup regime. Day 2: Again my skin felt heavy and clogged in the morning, I noticed breakouts starting around my nose and on my chin (ugh!) - blessed with the skin I have, I only suffer from minor breakouts at a certain time of the month, and it wasn't that time, so was a little wary. Skin was definitely soft after I rinsed the product off. I noticed my pillowcase also had a greasy type film on it from the product, my face felt dirty in the morning. Day 3: I opted for the treat-me type option on the box as it was Friday, which is my bubble bath and relaxation night. After about an hour and a half of having the product on, I rinsed it off and noticed my breakouts were starting to look a little angry and redder than they had been. Day 4: opted not to use the product on this day with my breakouts as they were. Day 5: again opted not to use the product as my breakouts weren't clearing as quickly as I hoped. Day 6: breakouts were clearing so opted for the shorter timeframe, immediately noticed the skin around my breakouts went redder and my T-zone felt oily and clogged. While my cheeks and forehead felt soft, my T-zone just felt clogged and heavy. Day 7: last day of the trial, I used the product for a very short timeframe of 30mins, again the same results as Day 6. Overall I'd be reluctant to spend money on this product and wouldn't be purchasing it after the trial. It went on smoothly and a small amount was needed so it would be economical in that sense.

Tips: I'd recommend only using it once or twice a week rather than as part of a daily regime. Also test it on the side of your neck or under your chin rather than on your hand to make sure you don't have any breakouts or redness before trying it on your face.

Winter blues!

Rain, wind, sun, snow on the mountain and air so cold you breathe steam, is not a recipe for hydrated skin! It's a recipe for skin like a dried up autumn leaf by the end of the day. Add to the outside elements the office air conditioning and I was in need some serious hydration at the end of the day. Enter Evolu Rehydration Rescue Masque! Rescue is the perfect word for it. Home from work, makeup off, masque on. A winning combination as it turns out. This masque comes in a squeeze tube (love that). Gentle enough to use every day (which I've done since receiving it), this masque has a thick cream consistency and applies so smoothly. It really is like putting a moisturiser on and forgetting about it. I believe the instructions say you can leave this on overnight, however I only did it for about half to 45 minutes in the evening. The results are just fabulous. My skin is smooth, plump, fresh, hydrated and ready for my night time routine. All of these things are still apparent in the morning. I’ve found the additional hydration from the masque has given that extra boost to my skin that one always needs over winter, my foundation is applying smoother and I’m really enjoying a masque that can be used every day. Love it!

Evolu Rehydration Rescue Masque

Prior to reviewing this I had never tried a leave on overnight masque. To be honest I didn't know they existed, so I was quite excited to give it a whirl. I love the fact that you are effectively feeding your skin while you sleep. The texture of the masque is dense but not creamy, it is gently fragranced with bergamot and sweet orange essential oils. Upon application it literally soaks into your face. I wasn't expecting anything miraculous when I rinsed it off the following morning, but was pleasantly surprised to feel how soft my skin was. My once dehydrated skin really did feel restored & that was due to only one application! The listed ingredients of vinanza, vitamins, proteins and Omega-6 fatty acids work a treat. For this review I used the masque a total of 10 times overnight. My skin feels great - I'm really pleased with the results.

Evolu Rehydration Masque

Thank you BR for sending me this product to trial! I have heard of the brand Evolu, I've tried one or two products by them but I don't seem to hear enough about the brand - which we should!

This Rehydration Masque came at a really good time. I have dry skin, made even worse over winter, so I tend to resort to balms and oils. The packaging is a lavender purple colour, which at first gave me the impression that this product was going to smell like lavender...I kind of braced myself as Im not a fan of that scent..the relief! It smells super lovely..like lemony/lime/citrussy scents but ever so subtle. It's refreshing and enjoyable.

The product is very easy to use, its in a well packaged tube..easy to squeeze product out and easy to apply. The box states that you can either apply and remove with a wet towel after relaxation time or leave on overnight. I always went with overnight to give my skin some good rehydration. This feels cooling when you first apply..feels soothing & makes my skin feel super soft. My skin feels hydrated right away and by the morning my skin remains soft. It doesnt say how often to use it so I've been using this basically every night or every other night. My redness has improved really well and so has flaky areas on my face.

I am really impressed with this masque! I wish it was more affordable though!!

Tips: Use a warm cloth to remove, it feels a lot more luxurious!

Can't Stop Touching My Face

The Evolu Rehydration rescue masque is definitely different to any type of masque I’ve used before.

The packaging is handy and easy to use – it’s the perfect size to take away on holiday or to pop in your bag. It smells absolutely lovely, it has a subtle fruity smell that reminds me of having a facial at the beauticians.

I love the feel of it on my skin, it feels like a moisturizing cream and is so light that you can’t even feel that it’s on your skin once it has absorbed (which is very quick). I also love the option of leaving it on overnight and washing it off in the morning – I feel like I’m getting my money’s worth. It’s also reassuring to know that it contains plenty of vitamins, proteins and omega-6 fatty acids as at my age, my skin needs as much help as it can get.

The directions say ‘Either leave on overnight and cleanse in the morning, or remove with a warm wet towel after relaxation time.’ I’ve tried the ‘relaxation time during the day’ option but my children seem to have other ideas ;-). I did leave it on during the day on the weekend but minus the relaxation time. No one would know you had it on which is also very handy.

It has made my skin feel so soft and dare I say, youthful. While I have the masque on, I can’t stop touching my skin as it feels amazing. It feels much more hydrated than it usually does, and actually the best it has felt in a long while. I look forward to further continual use to see the results over a longer period.

This is the first Evolu product I’ve tried but I think I may need to investigate further and purchase some additional Evolu products if the rescuing masque is anything to go by. Love this product!

Tips: Use the overnight option for added benefit.

Rehydration Rescue

I was so excited to get on this trial as Evolu is a brand that I definitely want to try more of! Especially as my skin can be particularly dry so I knew this would be a product that would work for my specific skin type. I have also been travelling on planes a bit lately and that is something that dries my skin out even more.

The packaging is absolutely lovely on this. I really think that Evolu as a brand nails the classy packaging. Light purple squeezy tube with heaps of information on the outside - love when brands put the info on the actual packaging so I don't have to keep the box it comes in. Also love that all of the packaging is recyclable.

Also of note is that this product isn't tested on animals and is made in NZ.

The product itself is a milky cream colour, great if you wanted to use it on a long haul flight without getting weird looks (my husband just said he thought my skin was a bit paler than normal). It is nicely scented in a herbal flowery sort of way but it isn't too strong. The packaging says that you can use this overnight, but I don't really like doing that. I must say though it does dry down to a matte texture quite quickly so you don't need to worry about residue on your pillow. The mask drying down does make me wonder whether there is actually any benefit to leaving it on overnight. Personally I just left this on for a couple hours in the evening then wiped off with a warm face cloth before bed. The product itself sunk into my skin really well, and made it incredibly smooth and felt well moisturised. It also didn't increase my redness or any of my other usual sensitive skin issues.

I am really interested in this brand and tempted to try more! Luckily for me another reviewer mentioned that inside the box is a $20 coupon if you sign up to their newsletter... good deal!
