So the SKIN by ecostore range is a great supermarket find.
The negatives - I find the packaging a bit bland (LOVE the two pump bottles though). All three products have a very odd smell. It borders on unpleasant - If I'd done the smell-test in store I probably wouldn't have purchased.
BUT once you get past those first impressions, the products themselves are fabulously...beige. I'm used to bright white products and I actually enjoyed seeing a natural beige colour.
The cleanser and night cream are fab - the cleanser is non-drying and actually quite effective. The night cream is a wonderful consistency, rich but not overly thick.
The lotion just isn't as hydrating as I would like it to be - fine for spring/autumn, but in the more extreme months I don't think it would be enough.
As a range - it ticks so many yes boxes, for the environment, animals, wallet, and skin. Its probably one of the best ranges you can buy - with no guilt!
I was really keen to try the Ecostore Skin Care regime, as I love skin care that is based on natural products. I wasn't aware they had launced a skincare range, and as I use other Ecostore products, this was one of interest. The products I tried were the Gentle Cleanser, Hydrating Moisturiser, and Replenishing Night Cream. The packaging is stylish, with a marine feel, a strip of orange to green design down the side, and clear instructions & ingredients on the back of each box. Natural Ingredients across the products include Marine Bioactives (from seaweed), along with soothing Harakeke, EFA rich Blackcurrent Oil and Grapeseed Extract strong in Anti-oxidants, with the range aiming to hydrate, replenish and regenerate skin. Each in the range comes in a beige coloured container, and a green lid (a different green each). All of the products have a similar plant smell, which I personally found a little off-putting. The Cream Cleanser with calendula is in a 140ml pump bottle. It was creamy without being thick. Texture was almost silken, similar to a foaming cleanser than doesn't foam. Using a small amount, it was a decent cleanser however with heavier make up, I needed to use more. It washed off easily, and the smell didn't linger. The Hydrating Moisturiser came in a 40ml pump bottle, and I used it as a day cream. A beige coloured lotion, Immediately after application, my skin felt tight as if it was stripped of moisture, and had a 'grippy' feeling. My BB Cream did not apply smoothly, and I kept noticing the smell of it all day even though I had applied make up. I reacted to this product on the first day, with small bumps across my forehead and then cheeks, and after a few days break, I used once more and reacted again. I couldn't find anything in the chemical ingredients which had been an issue previously. I had to stop using. The Replenishing Night Cream came in a 50ml pottle, with a look that made me feel it was more upmarket than an average-priced night cream. Thicker than the hydrating moisturiser, but not as thick as an expensive rich night cream. Again, the same smell, however this didn't linger as long as the moisturiser had. I liked the texture and feel of this on my skin, however I have used other's which felt better. My skin still felt like it was wanting more. Overall, had I not had the reaction to the Hydrating Moisturiser, I would say this may be a nice skin care range for someone with normal skin wanting a natural plant-based skin care. However as I feel it didn't hydrated my skin, it was not for me.
Tips: Patch test each product 24 hrs prior to using.
I enjoyed this regime from SKIN by ecostore. The packaging is my kind of style - simple, clear, clean. You know what you're getting and I really like that they don't go overboard on claims.
First things first - the scent. It's very pronounced across all three products - and as I used each product I found myself remembering a much more expensive natural brand I used and loved years ago (but stopped using due to $$$) - this gave me hope that it might have similar results. While the scent is strong it doesn't stick around once applied to the skin.
Gentle Cleanser - I really, really enjoyed this cleanser. It was so soft and gently on the skin, removed makeup, while left my skin soft and not stripped of oils. Would buy again.
Hydrating Moisturiser - this took some working out - and I'm not talking about the easy to use pump mechanism. One pump did not provide enough moisturisation for my dry-ish skin. One and a half pumps was perfect. Once I got the amount right my skin felt pleasantly plump and not oily.
Replenishing Night Cream - Like the day cream I had to figure out how much was enough as initially I didn't use enough and my skin wasn't feeling moisturised, but a good thumb pad sized amount did the trick. It's not the heaviest, most nourishing moisturiser I've ever used - but it's still nice on the skin and definitely hydrates. I'd really like to team this with the SKIN by ecostore oil as suggested as I think my skin would love that.
Overall it's a good regime. It works together. It does what it says it will. As it's targeted at dry skin I do wish it was slightly more nourishing, but that's a personal thing and wouldn't apply to everyone. Whilst using it my skin hasn't broken out, it's looked bright and plump and I think the price point is excellent.
Tips: Don't be put off by the scent - it goes away.
I was so thrilled to be selected to trial the ecostore SKIN Regime. I have been using the ecostore cleanser, moisturiser and night for over a week now and I am very pleased with the results. The products are lovely and effective to use each by themselves but used together they produce optimal results. My skin has become noticeably softer, more hydrated and visibly firmer and brighter. I have a healthy glow as opposed to looking tired. All the three products come nicely packaged in pastel coloured tubes and tub. There is an understated elegance about the packaging. The products are lightly fragrant and very easy to dispense and use. There is no sticky or greasy feeling upon application and the skin feels softer, smoother and bouncy to touch. I love these and would definitely buy and use again. It’s lovely to find such gems that are locally made.
Didn't even know Ecostore had a skincare range! Ive purchased their cleaning products & love them, well the same now for the skincare. Its very gentle on the skin, the cleanser is light, foams up well & is easy to remove. Skin feels great after, clean but not stripped. The day cream is lightly fraganced, at first i wasnt sure i liked the smell it but now i dont notice it. Its thin to apply & non-greasy, great under my all day makeup. The night cream is heavier but not greasy also, nice & refreshing to use after the cleanser at the end of a busy work day. Ive been really happy to review this regimen, ive had not breakouts or reactions, which isnt surprising with ecostore being a brand thats all about natural & no nasties. I looked up on ecostores website to find out more about these products & discovered there are lots more skincare goodness available and all at a great affordability around the $20 mark. Thats $60 for a whole regimen not just 1 product. The packaging is simple but classy & it was great to travel with, lids stayed on no problem. Well done Ecostore, i love your products :)
Tips: Use as you would with any other skin care regimen, its simple, easy to use & a great product.
The best products in this range are the Replenishing Night Cream and Multi-Nutrient Facial Oil. If you try them, you will love them! You will have to apply a few layers to get the full benefits but it is worth it. It leaves your skin glowing, firm, and soft. I have made these two products "must haves" which I very rarely do. It will take a lot to get me to switch from these.
The foaming Purifying Cleanser is another good product in this range. 3/5. I could be swayed to another foaming cleanser though. :D.
The Hydrating Moisturiser was a surprising disappointment. It softened my skin but I hated the pronounced wrinkles and turkey-neck that it gave me after 4 days. Thankfully, switching to the amazing Replenishing Night Cream sorted out those problems within 2 days.
Overall, a great range.
Tips: Apply several layers of the Multi-Nutrient Facial Oil and Replenishing Night Cream for two weeks. It's a bit pricey for a supermarket brand but your skin will get used to it. It will be totally worth it!
I loved all of these products. They worked well together to compliment each other. They all had a pleasant smell and were easy to apply. I would definitely purchase the cleanser and night cream again but was a bitmput if the day moisturiser as it contained no spf factor.
Tips: I found wetting my face before using the cleanser worked well and clean hands before dipping them in the night cream.
The packaging is great, such a lovely green tone with all three tying in nicely together. The Cleanser and Day Moisturizer can in self dispensing bottles with screw dispensers to lock; both had a lid to cover. This made those two ideal for traveling, gym bag etc… The Night Cream came in a pottle with screw top lid.
Packaging indicates recyclable, product is cruelty friendly and 6 month shelf life after opening = ticks from me on these. Generous amounts and using cleanser twice daily and creams once daily I feel they would easily last 6 months.
*There was an issue for me with the fragrance of products. It is just oddly unpleasant & particularly stronger with day cream. The Night Cream seemed not so bad. Maybe the focus on Marine Bioactive is too much?
**Second off putting thing for me is the colour, light beige. Seems like it is staring to go off (even though not).
All three products were however pleasant to use, easily absorbed, no reaction. Texture was light but still feeling substantial for the cleanser & day cream. The night cream was thicker being somewhere in-between too light and too heavy.
Something I appreciated from Ecostore was they didn’t make over the top claims. They kept ingredients simple and to the point, all three fitted well together in that regard NZ Antioxidant and Vitamin-rich Grape seed extract, omega-packed blackcurrant oil and marine extract keeps skin hydrated and smooth, not over doing it with expectation and did just that.
It’s not star-winning and with so many competitors in the “supermarket branded” aisle I recommend but don’t expect too much. It’s simple, effective, bit smelly but nicely packaged. They fit in the middle of the supermarket market, seeming to have missed the mark with this range.
Ecostore have given us the option to purchase minis of this regime (plus their facial oil – which if I used might have improved my rating). I would recommend trying first because I unfortunately can’t get over the fragrance. Night cream not so intense and will continue to use but day cream and cleanser a fail for me.
Tips: Try minis first, my negatives might be your positives.
I was intrigued when Skin by Ecostore first came out. The simple packaging and straightforward messaging behind their brand made it appealing.
However, I do think it is a bit pricey compared to other supermarket skincare products. This means I'm unlikely to repurchase.
All of these products were fine on my sensitive dry skin. They didn't leave me with 'wow' results, but they weren't bad to use either.
I like the cleanser the best as it's gentle and hydrating.
The facial moisturiser and night creme aren't as moisturising as I'd like though.
