Color Wow Root Cover Up Review Blonde

This product was my holy grail when I was blonde. My hair grows super fast and my natural colour is a very dark brown so my pesky roots were always such a hassle. This product was amazing when I was in between salon visits. While it didn’t cover up my brown completely, it really took the edge off and lightened it up a lot. It’s quick and easy to use and lasts all day. Because it’s a powder it doesn’t leave any oily residue. I did find I went through it quite quickly and I’d prefer it if it came in a larger format.

So I brought the colour wow root cover up in the last beauty vault to cover up my roots between colours.

When I opened the box, I pulled out a very stylish palette. Opening the palette, the top half was a mirror, the bottom half was what looked like an eyeshadow square that took up about 25% of the bottom of the palette and then a brush which took up about 50% of the bottom of the palette. The brush looked like a big version if an eye brow brush with a large brush on one end and an extra large brush on the other end.

Like with eyeshadow, you get the brush and swipe it over the colour then brush it onto the desired area. However I did find no matter how many times I brushed product onto my roots, the blonde colour did not get much stronger. And the colour only lasted for about an hour. That all being said, I do have very dark roots, so for people with lighter hair this product may work much better.

I like that this product wasn't sticky like the colour cover up sticks, but it also didn't last as long either.

I have a Cruella DeVille type grey patch right along my hairline above my left eye. I have light hair to start with but the white/grey growing out is so noticeable. This product is perfect for covering this between hairdresser visits and in fact the only reason I even go to the hairdresser is for this very little patch of grey. The two ended brush is great to get a more precise application. You can get a mark on your scalp if you aren't careful in your application which looks dodgy. I also found I had to touch it up most days as it either washed off when I washed my face or just didn't last as long as it claimed. Definitely fast and easy.

I've gone back to blonde, totally forgetting how much work it is! I loathe having roots, and I thought this might be a nice solution - if I could use this to colour in the roots I'd be able to resist dying every couple of weeks.

The cover-up is quite clever - I went with the lightest shade, and it was an excellent match to my colour. There are two ends to the applicator brush, one long and one short - this is a great design because it lets you control how deep you need to go - for example I use the short edge for very visible areas that need a strong layer of product and it gives excellent coverage. I can use the longer brush to go a bit deeper (but it isn't as concentrated, so it takes more applications to really cover the roots)

So, the coverage is good, the colour is an excellent match... so why am I giving it a low score for 'Would you use it again'?

Because it is a lot of work on light hair. :( I can see where this would be great to cover grey, or on darker/red hair... but for me, wanting my roots covered, it takes ages to get it right. To do it properly I have to go deeper than just my part and fringe, or I find that it looks weird. That means flipping my hair and applying to at least two levels deep - which is more work than I want to put in on an average morning.

So if you're obsessed with dark roots, this might not be the product for you (depending on your level of obsession). If you're not so obsessive or if you're a darker colour - this is the product for you! :)

I have light brown hair and use one of the brown shades in this product, so I can't speak for how well this would work on blondes. I dye my roots every 4-5 weeks, but always have some regrowth and pesky grays popping up before then. This product is seriously a life saver for me. It covers my roots perfectly, and the colour definitely doesn't budge until the next wash. It's quick and easy to apply (I just do my hair as usually and then apply it to anywhere my roots are visible), and looks completely natural. My favourite thing is that it means I don't have to hide away for a week as I endure that awkward in-between colourings phase. It might seem a bit pricey, but I've had mine for at least 4 months and I still haven't hit the pan (plus you save money doing fewer dye touch ups). If you're on the fence, or have given up on trying root touch up products, definitely give this a go!
