I love Clarins. It's been in and out of my budget for many many years. When I saw they had a new calming range, I jumped at the chance as my skin has become reactive over the past year. It needed a reset, and this is exactly what this Sensitive Skin Care Clairns range aims to do. The Calm-Essentiel Soothing Emulsion with Clary Sage is packaged in the traditional Red and White Clarins box, and comes in a 50ml pump tube. Box has information on Clary Sage benefits, ingredients, commitments of the product which include formula, effectiveness, packaging sustainability, emulsion benefits and use. This can used morning and/or evening, and recommends adding a few drops of Restoring Treatment Oil. As I was using another product in the range in the morning (Redness Correcitve Gel), I chose to use this in the evening (with and without the treatment oil to compare). The tube needs an initial couple of pumps to get going, and dispenses a pea-sized amount of light cream. Immediately cooling on the skin at application, this feels soothing, skin feels instantly hydrated. I used two pumps as my skin has been very dry and tight across the cheeks, exacerbated by hormones and acid/active-based skin care in the past year. Within a week of use, I could feel my skin being restored, no longer less reactive to environment and make up, and more hydrated. Liquid foundation was easier to apply, no longer leaving drag marks over my cheeks. After two weeks, inconjunction with using the two other products in this range, my skin is definitely less fragile, less sensitive, much more hydrated and soothed. I have switched to a lighter mineral foundation as my skin looks fresher, calmer, and more even in tone. The only thing I can find an issue with is it smells different to other clarins products I've used over the past 2 decades, but that's a personal thing, it's not an unpleasant fragrance, just more herbally.

Clarins Calm-Essentiel Soothing Emulsion
Wtih 96% of its ingredients from natural origin, Clarins Calm-Essentiel Soothing Emulsion immediately soothes feelings of uncomfortable skin (tight or dry skin).
Its rich, caressing texture is enriched in organic camellia oil and smoothes easily over the skin. It deeply hydrates and protects it from external aggressions. It also contains white horehound extract which helps fight against the harmful effects of pollution.
Skin is comforted, looks radiant, and, most of all, its tolerance level is improved day after day...
For an enhanced feeling of comfort, Clarins recommends mixing in a few drops of Restoring treatment oil.

Tips: If using in conjuction with the Restoring Treatment Oil, pump Emulsion in to palm of hand and mix in 3-4 drops of oil for extra ease of application and comfort, then use remaining amount in palm of hand to soothe down neck.
This is a fantastic moisturizer, I am so happy with the results I have from it. My skin has been a lot drier now that is has turned into the colder months. As soon as I started using this on my skin I could feel an instant hydration and feel suppleness to my skin. I have also applied it to my hands because they have felt the same dryness and they feel so much better. I love the way my skin absorbs it quickly and I have no sticky residue left on my skin which is great. The bottle it comes in is perfect, the pump gives you the ability to have no wastage and the design of it means no product would go unused. The only downside i have with this product is the fragrance. I find it very strong and can smell it for a good while after use which is slight annoying but the results of this are so good I can definitely over look it.
Tips: You only need a little of this product, it goes a long way.
I love that this is hermetically packaged - the tube/pump means that air isn't going to get in. It also means you're not coming into contact with the unused product.
I like this light emulsion a lot, my skin is combo, this worked well and didn't add any oilyness to my t zone.
It feels so lovely upon application, slightly cooling and definitely calming. It has a lovely fragrance that adds to the experience. I actually love that its fragranced, i know for some people that's a no-no for sensitive skin products, but for me I love it that they've found a gentle way to add scent using calming ingredients.
This leaves skin glowing and refreshed and really soft to touch. I'm going to enjoy using this through the winter months and beyond.
I don't think I can rave about this product enough!
I've never used Clarins before, but I am familiar with the brand. I think of it as being high end and quite pricey - but I'm happy to confirm it is worth the money!
The packaging: Is functional and simple. I read up a little online to get more information on what to use, when, but there is some info on the packaging. It feels sturdy and the pump lid secure.
The formula: It smells quite earthy/natural. Being for sensitive skin I'm glad it isn't really strongly scented. It's a light and easily absorbed product - it just seems to melt in to the skin.
The effects: After use my skin feels soft and moisturised and really soothed. There's no sign of irritation.
Final Thoughts: I would recommend this as a staple moisturiser for those with sensitive skin.
Tips: Add a few drops of the matching oil for some extra hydrating ooomph
This emulsion is a lovely, light but hydrating lotion that immediately soaks into my skin.
Its scented but not overly fragrant,I think its the clary sage I can smell. Its more herbaceous than floral which I appreciated.
I like the pump-tube hybrid, I just wish there were more instructions - at first I wasn't too sure what an emulsion was in terms of skin care. I've been using it in lieu of moisturiser and have been so impressed with just how moisturising it is!
I would definitely use this again, I experienced nothing but good hydration, no reactions or sensitivity!
I have never used a product like this before. I found it to be lightweight and non greasy and replaced it at night for moisturiser. It had a beautiful fragrance and felt beautiful to the skin. My skin felt hydrated with this product although I did feel I needed my moisturiser on top of it for the day time. My skin felt rejuvenated after use and would use it again.
Tips: Possibly could need an extra moisturiser on top during day and needed 2 squirts for my face and neck.
I was super stoked to get on this trial....thanks BR! A little bit about my skin, it can be very fussy! I have to be careful what I use as some products set my skin on fire and I often get a horrible irritation. I have redness on my chin and cheeks and get occasional breakouts.
The Clarins Calm-Essentiel soothing emulsion sounded right up my alley, anything with the words soothing make me want to plaster it all over my face. It has a nice medium consistency which is neither too thick nor runny....it is perfect. It has a lovely faint almost floral smell, I use a pump and a half and gently smooth it around my face.
It sinks into my skin beautifully and yay no tingling or burning at all! I really like how it makes my skin feel super soft and hydrated. My foundation glides over top with ease and sits well.
I have been using this both morning and night and my skin is looking healthy and fresh. It has not given me any breakouts at all. Overall it is a lovely product and I will happily keep using it. Thanks BR!
The Clarins Calm-Essentiel Soothing Emulsion comes in classic Clarins white and red packaging. I liked the pump on it and found it worked well.
The product is a white cream that feels light initially, but packs a hydration punch. It sinks in quickly and its light, floral scent doesn't hang around too long. My sensitive skin really enjoyed this moisturiser, and it worked well both during the day and overnight. While trialing it my skin felt lovely, and I really enjoyed the experience of using it.
Would I recommend this? Absolutely.
Tips: Use this first, and then (at night) apply the matching oil if needed.
I received a tube of this emulsion as part of a trial of the whole Clarins Calm-Essentiel regime. The size of the tube is a good size -50ml, and the white cream is dispensed via a pump which makes it easy to use. The emulsion is light, has a slight perfume, sinks in easily with a slight cooling effect and didn't upset my sensitive skin. I have been using this for just over a week, and will continue to use to see if other benefits become evident (e.g. protection from pollution - though I'm unsure how this is measured). My skin is soft and hydrated. At around $90 this is not inexpensive. I did like this cream and if I was going to buy one of the 3 products in the regime - this would probably be the one. However, at this stage I don't think I would pay this price when I haven't seen outstanding results.
Tips: 2-3 pumps after cleansing face & neck and use morning and/ or night. Mix in with either anti redness(morning) or restoring oil (evening) if using for quick & consistent coverage.
This is the first Clarins product I have tried and what a stunner! My skin was looking a bit dreary with winter and to be honest not drinking enough water but this moisturiser really helped liven my skin up. The packaging is inviting. I love the scent, it is quite strong but it's lovely so doesn't bother me. The only down fall is the price, it is quite hefty. Still though if you want to treat yourself it is worth it.
