Clearer, happy skin

This is another great product that I tried because of BR. I've got the occasional hyperpigmentation from pimples adnd in generally my skintone isn't very even. Now this isn't the biggest of my concerns but I've long heard the wonders of rosehip oil and vitC in brightening hyperpigmentation, so I figured this wouldn't hurt to give it a shot!

This comes in a standard dropper bottle, which makes dispensing the oil easy and mess free. I use this at night in the colder months when I feel like my skin dries out a bit more. Usually two drops is enough for my whole face and neck, because I don't like feeling overly greasy. This is relatively light weight but I can definitely still feel (and see) the sheen of oil about 10 minutes later. It feels very relaxing to rub this in, and I almost use it like a massage oil for my face. I have noticed my acne spots fading a little faster when using it, and I don't know if it's placebo but I feel like my skin is more glowing!

My biggest complaint (which seems shared by many other ladies) is its weird smell. It's not pungent enough to stop me using it, but it's definitely one of the smellier oils I've tried. I suppose the silver lining is that they didn't add an artificial fragrance and kept this natural.

Overally a good product that slowly but surely helps my skin look clearer. It comes in a really big bottle too so I think it's great value for its price. Would repurchase!

A'kin Light Rosehip Oil with Vit C Brightens Skin

I was really happy to get this in a Beauty Box. I think this rosehip oil is one of the best ones I've tried because it not only brightened my skin after about a week of using it but it's also really lightweight and lightweight enough that you could wear it during the day unless it's really hot and your skin type is oily. This rosehip oil is a blend of macadamia oil, ascobyl tetraisopalmitate (a form of oil soluble vitamin C) and rosemary extract. Scent wise it just smells like oil, not the best but it's better than some rosehip oil that reminded me a bit of those fish oil capsules I would take.

Now since last year I have been into using a vitamin C serum or moisturizer under my spf moisturizer and my skin gets much brighter when I use one. I had run out of my vitamin C serum and had been out for a while, so my skin got a bit duller and not as bright as it was before. So I used this once a day at least, sometimes I used this in the evening and after a week my skin was brighter again. Now this didn't lighten my sunspots like my high strength vitamin c suspension from the Ordinary, but my skin tone looked brighter overall.

The only cons for this product is that when some got around my eyes, my eyes would sting which I've never had that problem with any other rosehip oil I've used in the past. The other con is I can't find a site that sells it within New Zealand, because otherwise I would definitely repurchase this.

Tips: Don't let this get around your eye area because it stings. If you have more normal and dry skin this a superb oil to wear during the day. If you have more oily, combination skin then this is nice to use in place of a night cream during those hot summer nights or underneath a night moisturizer if it's slightly cooler.

A'kin Brightening Rosehip Oil with Vitamin C

I got my bottle from the beauty vault some time ago but it just took me a while to get round to writing a review. I used this in the morning and in the evening. The smell was pretty strong but I managed to get used to it and carry on. I used this for 3 weeks and whilst my skin was softer, my complexion remained patchy. I've seen comments about it being used for hair and so I may look at using the oil in that manner instead.

Smelly but a Goody

I got this in a Cruelty Free edition of BBBE. The oil is contained in a glass dropper bottle packaged in a cardboard box. The scent is very unpleasant, to me it smelt fishy and made me gag the first few times I used it, but I powered through after reading the amazing reviews and I didn’t want to give up on it. Eventually, my nose did get desensitised to the scent.

I followed the instructions using 3-4 drops of oil rubbing it on my face and neck before applying moisturiser. The oil itself is very lightweight and I found it non-greasy. I have oily skin and it didn’t change the texture of my skin, instead it felt supple. I use it mostly during the night before I head to bed, but some days I use it during the day as well if my skin is looking a bit dull. I have noticed a significant difference since using this, the appearance of pigmentation caused by pimple and acne scars has diminished and my skin looked brighter.

I read in one of the BR blogs about using rosehip oil for hair, so I tried it. I wasn’t disappointment. I used 4-5 drops and rubbed it into my hair focusing on the ends of my hair. I left it in for 20 minutes before I hopped into the shower and washed my hair. After I washed and dried my hair, there was a nice shine to it and looked healthier. There wasn’t any oil residue left of my hair either.

Overall, I think it’s a wonderful product and it has multiple purposes than just the face.

Tips: Make sure to wash your face before applying the oil.

Offensive Scent

I received this in a BBBE box that I purchased last year and have only got around to using it this last month. This is only the second face oil that I have used so I was excited to see what the results would be.

The first thing I noticed when opening this product was the smell, it smelt so bad. I thought surely it is not supposed to smell like this but from having done further research other people had also said the same thing. I was seriously considering not even using it further at that point but I really wanted to give this a fair go.

I also noticed the dropper was unique, it was slightly angled and offered better control of the amount of product that came out of it.

I used this oil both by itself and with a moisturiser on top of it after it had absorbed into the skin. By itself, skin does like brighter and it wasn't greasy. The oil also absorbed into my skin quite quickly. I also found it absorbed the moisturiser a lot better too and I used less product to get the same result.

The offensive smell has lessened over my daily use of this product, I assume that's because I have become use to it. Although it's still not a favourite.

I will use up the rest of the bottle but I am not looking to repurchase at this stage.

Tips: 3 drops is enough coverage for face and neck

I tried to love you

I love facial oils. I love hair oils. Fair to say I probably love every other oil there is on the planet, too. Just in general, I don't play favorites. This hit my radar months ago when a trial came out, and then the hype surrounding it thanks to fellow BR members, well! Thankfully I managed to snag a bottle in the vault, but I'm failing to see the hype surrounding it.

First off, my skin is dry and probably dehydrated. I have areas that are dry and flaky, and two red clown patches for cheeks. The rest just kinda sits there, not poking the bear and I’m thankful. I have enough issues. This oil, I thought would be the savior to all my problems, as my skin type sounds like the perfect candidate to guinea pig this stuff on. Coming in my favorite type of packaging, a gorgeous bottle with a dropper for easy and hygienic use.

The oil is quite light, which I wasn’t expecting as it’s a Rosehip, and in my experience they’re thick and heavy. The color of the oil should have been a dead giveaway that this was different, because in comparison this is the color of pale gold, whereas Trilogy, a ‘true’ rosehip oil, is a deep gold.

On my face, this feels lightweight and nice, but that’s about where it stops. I didn’t think it absorbed overly fast, and I felt it just kind of smoothed over my face rather than sinking in and fixing my issue of dry skin. Don’t get me wrong, it did the job but it didn’t *feel* like it did anything. I have a lot of issues with feeling the face on my skin, and if it feels dry even after putting my potions and lotions on it, then I’m not a happy camper. So that’s probably why I didn’t think it did anything. I also don't think it's done much to help my 'aging' or uneven skin tone, but I wasn't watching for those changes so I can't be entirely sure.

While it is a lovely oil and I finished the bottle (barely, it went syrupy before I could get the last dregs), I wouldn’t buy it again. Perhaps I just have a fussy face, but it's not one of the best oils I've tried.

My new fav!

I think I received this product from a Vault haul and didn't open it straight away as, I was on the tail end of finishing another brand. When I did open it, I thought it had gone rancid... I did a, lot of research, especially going into a couple stores to smell samples. Alas, it was it's normal fragrance and I soon got use to it. I use this twice a day, morning and night after cleansing my skin. It leaves my skin feeling so hydrated and soothed, I love it!

Tips: You only need two drops and the trick is to pat on your skin, not rub!

I can so identify with the fragrance issue - it's not great, but it's so worth using that I got over it too!

Uneven skin tone saver!

I received this oil as a prize from a BR giveaway and I have been using it on-and-off since I received it (about 8 months). The great thing about this oil is that I can put it aside and not use it for a couple of weeks but I can always count of it to save my uneven skin tone.

I am very prone to acne and scarring. If I get a pimple, I know it's going to leave a scar. No matter what. However, when the pimple is gone, I know I can use this oil for 2-3 nights and the scar will disappear. I know a couple of people don't experience the same instant effect, but my skin honestly feels like it has a brand new layer after 2-3 nights of using this oil (this may be because of my young age and youthful skin). I don't use it regularly, but rather as a pick-me-up product when my skin tone gets bad. Also, because of the recent strong summer sun, I started to get an uneven skin tan. After 2 nights of using this oil, my skin tone has evened out and my beautiful tan is still there!

Packaging of this product is really convenient! small bottle (but product lasts ages, 8 months and I'm not close to running out). The dropper is really clean and doesn't get messy.

Price is defiantly worth it. I have used $70-90 creams that promise to get rid of scars but gave little to no result. Of course, this is only my experience and results with my skin (I have combination oily/dry skin depending on weather and seasons).

I have recommended this oil to many friends and they have all loved it, even if they saw no pigmentation effects, they all noticed an obvious improvement in skin moisture and visible softness.

Tips: - One or two drops is plenty! - Smell may be strong for some so I sometimes use Aloe Vera gel on top to dull down the scent if I'm going into a social situation.

Great facial oil

I got this facial oil in a Beauty Box and I have never heard of A'kin before that. When I first got the oil out to use, I was surprised by how dark and thick it is compared to other rosehip oils I have used. It is a lovely amber colour.

The lid contains an attached dropper for dispensing the oil. I find this really handy because it means there is no wastage - you can squeeze out the exact amount you want and then just pop the dropper back into the bottle, even if it still has some oil left in it.

When I put it on my skin, it felt very moisturising and absorbed quickly without leaving a greasy feeling on my skin. I tend to apply this in the early evening when I wash my face and then I follow up with a night moisturiser a few hours later before I go to bed.

In terms of my skin's complexion, I feel like this has definitely helped with overall tone and dullness. I think this is probably the vitamin C, which I think is a great addition to a Rosehip oil (very clever A'kin!).

So, it's fair to say that I am a convert to A'kin and look forward to trying some of their other products.
